London Marathon 2022

After training for the London Marathon back in 2020, only to find out the gutting news that it was not only postponed but that I didn’t quite make it into the group of elite runners that were allowed to run in October, runner Roo is back for more.  

 

On October 2^nd 2022, I will be taking part in the London Marathon to help raise vital funds for Tusk and its work across Africa. 

 

The money raised will be injected into wildlife conservation and community development in Kenya. Since 1990 the charity has helped local organisations and communities to protect important habitats and some of the continent's most treasured animals – including elephants, lions and gorillas – so that both people and wildlife can thrive. The charity has helped pioneer a wide range of successful conservation initiatives across more than 20 countries, increasing vital protection for over 40 million hectares of land and more than 40 threatened species.

 

I have been lucky enough to see some of the incredible work that Tusk has done at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya. Tusk has been a major partner of Lewa since its inception, first donating two white rhinos in 1995 and since relocating wildlife, helping with anti-poaching endeavours and supporting Lewa’s community and education activities. I managed to survive the Lewa half marathon back in 2018 without getting gobbled by a lion – the lions clearly knew that there was more fundraising to be done, so I’m back for round two.
